Security and Safety . . . with a Side of Style

Security and Safety . . . with a Side of Style

In their simplest form, bollards are merely a series of poles installed to rise above the ground every few feet or so, depending on their intended purpose. They are used to provide safety, security, protection, and/or guidance for vehicles, pedestrians, and even watercraft. Choosing the proper bollards is greatly dependent upon the application. The larger the bollard, the more robust protection it provides. If your installation is primarily for establishing vehicular traffic, say in a parking garage or lot, you’ll want to choose larger bollards that can sustain an occasional low-speed impact. The larger bollards are also more visible and commanding in their presence than a simple curb, thereby providing safer passage for all parties. If you’re lighting a pedestrian walkway, a smaller bollard installation may suffice.

Bollards are also often found standing in front of many buildings (schools, hospitals, banks, and government offices, to name a few), quietly protecting entrances and defining boundaries for safe pathways. But they’re not just for commercial use . . . bollards can also add style, security, and safety to your home’s exterior areas.

Style? Yes, style! Just because bollards serve an essential security function doesn’t mean they can’t be stylish too! Today’s modern bollards come in all shapes and sizes. Available with round or square posts, domed or flat tops, bollards come in a variety of finishes from matte bronze to gleaming stainless steel to complement a variety of aesthetics.

The wide selection of bollards available at 1000Bulbs.com also have LED lights atop them, enhancing their appearance and adding to their already impressive ability to provide security and safety. Lighted bollards feature clear or frosted lenses made from durable polycarbonate, designed to withstand all types of outdoor elements and protect the interior LED lamp. And with their longer lifespan and low-energy consumption, LED-lighted bollards outperform those using HID lamps with dated technologies such as metal halide or high-pressure sodium.

Don’t be at risk for a failed installation—when considering bollards for your home or business, be sure to consult with a licensed professional. Improperly installed bollards can be damaged by weather or impacts, failing to provide their intended use.
